Alabama WIC
Last updated August 2026
Alabama WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under age five. It provides healthy food, breastfeeding support, and nutrition help. Apply by scheduling an appointment at your county health department; the statewide WIC helpline is (888) 942-4673.
The income line is 185 percent of the federal poverty level. Effective June 2026 through June 2027, the annual limit is $29,526 for one person, $50,542 for three, $61,050 for four, rising to $103,082 for eight, plus $10,508 per additional member. A working family fits under that line more often than people guess.
Here is the income shortcut: if you are enrolled in Medicaid, SNAP, or Family Assistance, you automatically meet the income test and skip the extra proof.
Besides income, there is a nutrition step. You must be an Alabama resident and be found at nutritional risk after an evaluation by a health professional at the WIC clinic. That evaluation is the point of the visit, and it is where the support begins.
Come to the appointment ready. Bring ID, proof of residence, and proof of your Medicaid or SNAP enrollment or your income, so one visit can finish the enrollment.
WIC adds to the grocery budget; it does not replace it. SNAP carries the core food budget and a household can hold both, and a pregnancy is also the moment to apply for Medicaid.
