ALL Kids (Alabama CHIP)
Last updated August 2026
ALL Kids is Alabama's CHIP, low-cost, full health coverage for children under age 19 whose families earn too much for Medicaid. It reaches up to 312 percent of the federal poverty level, well into working-family territory, so a parent turned down for Medicaid should look here next. Apply online, and ALL Kids Customer Service is 1-888-373-5437.
The cost is genuinely low, and for many families it is nothing. There are three premium groups: the No Fee group pays no premiums or copays, the Low Fee group pays $52 a year per child (up to $156 per family), and the Fee group pays $104 a year (up to $312 per family). That is per year, not per month.
There is also a hard ceiling on total costs. Families are never required to pay more than 5 percent of their annual income in out-of-pocket costs, premiums plus copays, in a year. So even the paying tiers have a firm limit.
The coverage is broad, not bare-bones: checkups, immunizations, sick visits, prescriptions, vision, dental, hospitalization, and mental health and substance abuse services. It is real insurance for a child.
Applying is straightforward. Apply online or by printing an application, and premiums can be paid online. If your child was denied Medicaid for income, that application is often forwarded here automatically, but it is worth confirming.
For families just over the Medicaid line, ALL Kids is frequently the answer, so do not leave a child uninsured assuming there are no options. Pair it with 2-1-1 to find other family help.
