Arizona Nutrition Assistance (SNAP)

Nutrition Assistance is Arizona's SNAP: monthly food money on a QUEST EBT card that works at grocery stores, some farmers markets, and online. Apply online at healthearizonaplus.gov, where one application covers food, cash, and medical assistance together. No internet? Call 1-855-432-7587 and DES mails you a paper application; you can also apply at any DES Family Assistance office.

Every application includes a required interview, by phone weekdays 7 to 3 at 1-855-432-7587 or in person. Save that number in your phone the day you apply; missing the interview call stalls everything.

One recent change matters more than any other: since 2025, DES no longer accepts your own written statement as proof. Documents are mandatory. Bring pay stubs, bank statements, and ID, or the case stalls. Standard decisions come within 30 days; households in immediate need can qualify for expedited processing and a decision within 7 days, so say plainly if the cupboard is bare.

The amounts through September 2026: up to $298 a month for one person, $546 for two, $785 for three, $994 for four, plus $218 per extra member. One- and two-person households get at least $24. Benefits load on a staggered schedule by the first letter of your last name, the 1st through the 13th of each month.

Three Arizona-specific doors people miss. Adults 65 and older without earned income get a shorter, simpler application through the Elderly Simplified Application Process. Homeless, elderly, or disabled recipients can buy low-cost prepared meals at authorized restaurants through the Restaurant Meals Program. And survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking can privately ask their specialist for exemptions from requirements that would be difficult or dangerous.

Adults 18 to 64 without a child under 14 face a work rule: 20 hours a week of work or training, or a three-months-in-three-years limit. Exemptions are broad, including pregnancy and caregiving, and some areas are geographically exempt, so ask rather than assume. You can appeal a denial, a stoppage, or even DES simply missing its deadline. And for food today, dial 2-1-1 for the nearest pantry.
