Connecticut SNAP puts monthly food money on an EBT card you swipe like a debit card at most grocery stores. You can apply online through ConneCT at connect.ct.gov, through the MyDSS mobile portal, by mail, or in person at a Department of Social Services office. You can also call the DSS Benefits Center at 1-855-626-6632, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm. DSS aims to decide most cases within 30 days.
Connecticut sets a friendly income door. The state lets most households qualify with gross monthly income at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, and DSS runs the exact numbers for your household size. As of October 1, 2025, the gross monthly income limits run from $2,609 for one person to $3,525 for two, $4,442 for three, and $5,359 for four, and they rise by $917 for each extra person.
The benefit is real, and a household with very little income can get the most. The maximum monthly amounts, in effect October 1, 2025, are $298 for one person, $546 for two, $785 for three, and $994 for four, plus $218 for each additional person. The amount you actually get depends on the money you make and your expenses, so most people receive less than the maximum.
If you have almost no money, ask for emergency SNAP, which DSS processes within 7 days. You may qualify for emergency processing if you make less than $150 a month with under $100 in savings, if your housing plus utility costs are more than your total income and savings, or if you are a migrant or seasonal farmworker in Connecticut.
After you are approved, you get an EBT card in the mail that has money added each month. Keep up with your paperwork, because most SNAP households must recertify by turning in forms every 6 months to keep their benefits.
One more thing to know. Connecticut launched a $300 state grocery card for residents who lose SNAP because of the new federal work rules passed in 2025, a state-only backstop that is separate from federal SNAP. If food is short today, you can also dial 2-1-1 to find a local food pantry while your application is processed.
