Connecticut WIC

Last updated August 2026

Connecticut WIC serves pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding people, infants, and children under age 5 who have a nutritional need. It gives healthy food, breastfeeding support, nutrition education, and referrals to other health and social services. To apply, fill out the online WIC Interest Form, or call the state WIC office at 1-800-741-2142 to find your local clinic. Connecticut WIC runs through local agencies of the state Department of Public Health.

The income line is 185 percent of the federal poverty level. That is well above SNAP's cutoff, so a working family that earns too much for food stamps may still qualify for WIC.

There is an income shortcut. If you already receive SNAP, Temporary Family Assistance (TFA), or HUSKY or Medicaid, you are automatically income-eligible for WIC. A person in a family that includes a TFA recipient, or a pregnant woman or infant on HUSKY or Medicaid, is also automatically income-eligible.

WIC is more than food. It provides a monthly food package that can include items like formula for eligible infants, plus nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other services. The goal is to help your family eat well during pregnancy and the early years.

The rules are simple to meet. You must live in Connecticut and complete a short nutrition assessment with WIC staff. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to qualify.

WIC adds to your grocery budget, it does not replace it. SNAP carries the core food budget, and a household can hold both at once. A pregnancy is also a good moment to apply for HUSKY, so mother and baby stay covered.
