Massachusetts fuel assistance, HEAP, helps pay winter heating bills from November 1 through April 30. Both homeowners and renters can apply, including households whose heat is included in rent. The amount depends on income, household size, heating source, oil, gas, propane, or electricity, and whether you live in subsidized housing, and payments go directly to your heating vendor or utility. Here is the multiplier most people miss. Getting fuel assistance automatically qualifies you for discounted electric and gas rates from investor-owned utilities and for free weatherization.
