Green Mountain Care is the umbrella name for Vermont's public health coverage. It includes Medicaid and Dr. Dynasaur, and it offers free or low-cost coverage for Vermonters with low incomes, children, pregnant people, older adults, and people with disabilities. Vermont expanded Medicaid, so low-income adults under 65 can qualify too.
Here is the main rule for adults. You may qualify for Medicaid for Children and Adults if you are under age 65, are not eligible for or enrolled in Medicare Part A, and have household income at or below 133 percent of the federal poverty level. This is true whether or not you have children, which some people do not expect.
Children and pregnant people reach further up the income scale. Dr. Dynasaur covers children under age 19 with household income below 312 percent of poverty. It also covers pregnant people, and it is free for pregnant people who meet the rules. Vermont now offers free coverage for 12 months after the pregnancy as well.
There are groups with their own rules. Medicaid for the Aged, Blind and Disabled is free coverage for people who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled. And Medicaid for former foster care youth is free with no income test, so a young adult who aged out of foster care can get covered no matter what they earn.
For children under 19, Dr. Dynasaur can carry a monthly cost of up to 60 dollars per household based on income, but those monthly premiums are suspended right now, so families are not being charged. That can change, so read any notice you get.
