Kansas 211

When you do not know which Kansas program to call, dial 2-1-1. It is a free, confidential service. United Way of the Plains runs it statewide. A referral specialist helps you find local health and human service resources near you.

There are three easy ways to reach it. Dial 2-1-1 by phone. Text your ZIP code to 898-211 to get referrals. Or search anytime at 211Kansas.org. Phone specialists work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. After hours, a recorded message points you to resources, so the phone line is not live around the clock.

It is open to everyone. There is no income test to call 211. Translation services are available. It is an information and referral service, not a benefit you apply for.

The referrals cover the needs that pile up together. 211 connects you to food, housing and shelter, employment and education, health and dental care, and senior and disability care. In 2025, the top five requests were food pantries, homeless shelters, low income and subsidized housing, rental assistance, and tax filing help.

Know what 211 does and does not do. It points you to the right local agencies and funds. It does not pay your bills itself. The value is learning which agencies near you have money or open intake right now, which changes month to month.

One note on coverage. 211 works across Kansas, though some northeast Kansas counties use a different platform. If a phone call does not connect, use the online search or the text option.
