Kansas LIEAP (Low Income Energy Assistance)

LIEAP is the Kansas Low Income Energy Assistance Program. It helps pay winter heating costs. It is a one time benefit each year. DCF runs it. You apply through the DCF Self-Service Portal during a set winter window, or by paper form from a local DCF service center.
The income line is 150 percent of the federal poverty level. Your combined gross household income cannot go over that line. A single person may earn up to about $1,956 a month. A family of four may earn up to about $4,019 a month. Each added household member raises the monthly limit by about $688.
One more rule matters. An adult in the home must be responsible for paying the heating costs. If you meet the income line and pay the heat bill, you may qualify. The program decides.
The benefit is once a year. You get one LIEAP benefit per year. The amount changes based on federal funding, your income and household size, your type of home, and your main heating fuel. If more money is available later in the year, DCF may send a supplemental benefit.
Timing is the catch. The 2026 LIEAP application period has ended. DCF posts the next window when it is set. The window has run in mid winter in past years. Watch dcf.ks.gov so you do not miss it.
