Kentucky WIC
Last updated August 2026
Kentucky WIC provides nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support, nutritious foods, and health-care referrals for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five. Apply by contacting your local health department or WIC clinic. The state WIC office is 877-597-0367.
Eligibility rests on three things: your category, income under the WIC guidelines (185 percent of the federal poverty level), and a nutritional risk. You can check the WIC income guidelines or use the online WIC Pre-Screening Tool before applying, so you know where you stand before the visit.
The food arrives through the WIC Shopper app and an approved food list, which lets you buy specific healthy foods, and both the app and the list are available in English and Spanish. It is a modern, phone-based way to shop that takes the guesswork out at the register.
Breastfeeding support is a real part of the program, not an afterthought. WIC has Designated Breastfeeding Experts and, at some clinics, peer counselors available outside normal clinic hours to help mothers meet their goals.
Do not miss the summer bonus. The WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program gives eligible participants $30 each summer to buy locally grown fruits, vegetables, and fresh herbs, and 101 farmers markets across 84 Kentucky counties accept the benefit.
WIC adds to the grocery budget; it does not replace it. SNAP carries the core food budget and a household can hold both, and WIC connects families to health care and other services. A pregnancy is also the moment to apply for Medicaid.
