Kern County Aging & Adult Services — Senior Information & Referral
Last updated August 2026
One phone call to (661) 868-1000 reaches Kern County's Senior Information & Referral line, which connects seniors, or a worried son, daughter, or caregiver, to meals on wheels, in-home care, transportation, utility rebate help, and legal services.
Staff will even help you fill out forms or make sense of letters from other agencies.
The call starts with describing the situation, yours or your parent's. From there, staff figure out which services fit and connect you to them; the point of this line is that you don't leave with a list of numbers to work through alone. If paperwork is what's blocking a benefit, say so. Helping with forms is explicitly part of the service, not a favor.
Call before the crisis if you can. In-home care and meal delivery work best arranged ahead of the fall or hospital stay that would otherwise force the issue. And if you're a family member worrying from another city, this number is where that worry goes. Calling on a senior's behalf is expected, not an exception. Nothing is lost by calling early; the worst outcome is a plan you don't need yet.
Senior needs cross program lines, so know the neighbors. GBLA's Seniors Law Center gives residents 60 and older free legal help at (661) 325-5943, the CAPK Food Bank runs a monthly Senior Food Box for eligible low-income seniors, and the Salvation Army sets a senior lunch table every Tuesday at 4417 Wilson Road.

What the application looks like
Common questions
Can family members call on a senior's behalf?
Yes. The line serves Kern County seniors and their family members or caregivers.
Does it cost anything?
No. It's free; contributions are welcome but never required.
Can they help with confusing paperwork?
Yes. Staff help fill out forms and explain letters from other agencies, which is half the battle with most programs.
What happens when I call the senior line?
You describe the situation, staff sort out which services fit (meals, care, rides, rebates, legal help) and they connect you rather than handing you a phone list. One call really is the design.
Is there a cost for the services they connect me to?
The referral line itself is free, and contributions are welcome but never required. Ask about any specific program's costs while staff have you on the line.
My mother lives in Kern County but I don't. Can I still call?
Yes. The line serves seniors and their family members or caregivers, wherever the family happens to live. Describe what you're seeing and staff will work the local side.
Can they help a senior with utility bills?
Utility rebate help is on the menu. Say those words when you call (661) 868-1000, and ask whether CAPK's Energy Program fits too.
