The Food Supplement Program is Maryland's name for SNAP. It puts monthly food money on an EBT card you swipe like a debit card. Apply online at MarylandBenefits.gov, the myMDTHINK consumer portal, or file with your Local Department of Social Services by mail, fax, or in person.
Maryland's income door is wider than most SNAP explainers admit. It uses broad-based categorical eligibility with a gross income test of 200 percent of the federal poverty level, not the 130 percent you often read. Effective October 2025 that is $2,610 a month for one person, $3,526 for two, $4,442 for three, $5,360 for four. A standard 130 percent gross test and a 100 percent net test also exist, so let the county run your real numbers.
The benefit is real, and a household with no income gets the maximum: $298 a month for one person, $546 for two, $785 for three, $994 for four, plus $218 for each additional person.
Speed is a genuine feature. Households with little or no money may qualify for expedited SNAP within 7 days, needing only an interview and identity verification. Say plainly if your cupboards are already bare.
