MO HealthNet (Missouri Medicaid)

MO HealthNet is Missouri's Medicaid program. Missouri adopted Medicaid expansion in 2021, so the Adult Expansion Group covers adults 19 to 64 without disabilities, on income alone. A single adult without children can qualify, which was not true in Missouri before. Apply online at mydss.mo.gov, or call MO HealthNet Constituent Services at 800-392-2161.

The expansion income limit is about 138 percent of poverty (133 percent plus a 5 percent disregard). Effective April 2026, the annual limits are $21,226 for one person, $28,781 for two, $36,335 for three, $43,890 for four. If you were turned down before 2021, the answer today may be different.

Families with children have their own, lower monthly standard, and there are separate pathways for children, pregnant people, and aged, blind, or disabled residents. One application checks the household, and a denial for one person decides nothing about the others.

Most participants get care through a managed care health plan, chosen at enrollment: Home State Health, Show Me Healthy Kids, Healthy Blue, or United Healthcare. You can change plans or, where allowed, opt out through the MO HealthNet benefit management portal.

There is a specific rule for long-term care residents worth knowing: most income goes toward the cost of care, but you keep a personal-needs allowance, $50 a month in a nursing facility, more in some residential settings.

While an application processes, 2-1-1 can point you to community health centers, and the same low income often qualifies the household for SNAP.
