Nevada Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Nevada's Energy Assistance Program helps low-income households pay heating and cooling bills. People call it EAP, and it is Nevada's version of the federal LIHEAP program. It runs year-round, not in short seasonal windows. Apply online through Access Nevada at accessnevada.nv.gov, or send a paper form by mail, fax, email, or a welfare office drop box. To qualify, your household's total monthly gross income cannot be more than 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. This works whether you heat and cool with electric, gas, or another fuel.
The income limits change each program year. For the year that runs July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the top monthly income is $1,995 for one person, $2,705 for two, $3,415 for three, and $4,125 for four. Add $710 for each extra person, up to $6,965 for eight.
The benefit is paid for you, not to you. Eligible households get one annual benefit each year. It is usually paid straight to your energy provider rather than to your household. The amount is based on your household's energy costs.
Timing matters. The program year runs July 1 through June 30, and applications are taken across that window while funding lasts. Once you get a benefit, you generally cannot apply again until about 11 months later. So plan around that gap.
You apply with proof of your last 30 days of household income, your ID, proof of citizenship or legal status, and a recent heating or cooling bill. You may qualify, but the program decides after it checks your income and bill. Pair EAP with weatherization to lower future bills for good.
