When you do not know which New Mexico program to call, dial 2-1-1. It is a free, confidential service that connects you to help in your community. Live Community Navigators listen, find the real problem behind your call, and point you to local resources and services.

Real people answer. Community Navigators take your call Monday through Friday, from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening, and the service is closed for major holidays. They work from eight call centers that serve 33 counties across the state.

The referrals cover the needs that pile up together. You can ask about housing, utilities, food, healthcare, and more. Navigators refer you to health and human service organizations in your area, plus regional and national groups when those fit.

It is open to everyone, at no cost. There is no income test to use it. In the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area, United Way of North Central New Mexico answers direct at 505-245-1735, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Know what 211 is and is not. It is an information and referral service, not a benefit you apply for. It does not pay your bills itself. The value is that a Navigator knows which local agencies and funds near you have money or open intake right now, which changes month to month.

Use it as your first call. Give your location and a short version of what you need, then write down each referral. From there, the statewide front doors are yes.nm.gov for SNAP, cash, and Medicaid, and 1-833-545-4357 for free civil legal help.
