New Mexico WIC
Last updated August 2026
New Mexico WIC helps pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding people, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk. It provides healthy foods to add to the diet, nutrition and breastfeeding information, and referrals to health care. The state Department of Health runs it. Call 1-866-867-3124 to learn more and to request an appointment.
First, your household needs someone who fits. That means a person who is pregnant now, is nursing a baby under one year old, had a baby or was pregnant in the last six months, a baby under one year old, or a child under age 5.
You must live in New Mexico. WIC requires proof of a home address in the state, and a P.O. box is not accepted as proof of where you live.
There is an income guideline, and a shortcut around it. WIC follows the federal standard of 185 percent of the poverty level for your family size. But if you are already on Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF, that generally meets the WIC income test for you, so you may not need to show income proof separately.
The program is more than food. It offers healthy-eating information, breastfeeding support, and referrals for other health services. A parent, grandparent, or guardian can bring a child in to apply.
Come to the appointment ready. Bring proof of identity for each applicant, proof of your New Mexico address, and proof of income for the last 30 days for anyone in the family who has income. That way one visit can finish enrollment.
