NM Energy$mart Weatherization Program

NM Energy$mart makes free energy-saving improvements to your home, work that lowers your bills for the long run. Housing New Mexico, also known as the Mortgage Finance Authority, runs it. Both homeowners and renters can qualify. There is no single statewide sign-up line, so you apply through the service provider that covers your part of the state.
The work is more than insulation. The program provides energy-saving retrofits and home modifications, and it also does home repairs needed for health and safety. All of it is done at no cost to the people who live in the home.
It is open to owners and renters. Many people assume only homeowners can get this help, but renters can qualify too. The improvements stay with the home and keep saving money after the crew leaves.
The savings are real and repeat. Homes in the program see about 27 percent average energy savings, which works out to roughly $210 to $250 a year on utility costs. Since 2010, Housing New Mexico has fully weatherized 10,388 homes across the state.
You qualify by income, through a provider. The program serves income-eligible households, and the exact limits and any priority are set by Housing New Mexico and its providers. To apply, you go through one of three service providers, each assigned to a geographic area based on where you live.
