North Dakota SNAP puts monthly food money on an EBT card. You swipe it like a debit card to buy food at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other USDA-approved vendors. The fastest way to apply is online through the state Self Service Portal. You can also print an application and return it to the Customer Support Center or a local Human Service Zone office, or ask for one by mail. Know the income lines. The gross monthly limit is 130 percent of poverty, effective Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026: $1,696 for one person, $2,292 for two, $2,888 for three, and $3,483 for a family of four. There is also a lower net limit of 100 percent of poverty, which is $1,305 for one person and $2,680 for four. Your household size and income decide it, and the Customer Support Center runs the exact numbers for your case.
The benefit is real. A household with no income gets the maximum: $298 a month for one person, $546 for two, $785 for three, $994 for four, and up to $1,789 for eight. As your income goes up, the benefit amount goes down.
There can be a work rule. If you are age 16 to 64 and able to work, you may need to meet general work requirements to get SNAP, unless you meet an exemption. Ask the Customer Support Center whether a rule applies to you.
Do not rule yourself out over immigration status. Some legal non-citizens can get SNAP, and getting SNAP will not hurt you if you want to become a citizen. Even if you cannot get benefits yourself, family members born in this country can.
