SoonerCare (Oklahoma Medicaid)

SoonerCare is Oklahoma's Medicaid program, run by the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. Oklahoma expanded Medicaid, so adults 19 to 64 who are not on Medicare qualify at income up to 138 percent of poverty. That change came from State Question 802, and coverage for eligible adults began July 1, 2021. Apply online through the MySoonerCare portal.

The expansion is real money for adults who had no option before. For 2026, expansion adults qualify up to $1,848 a month for a household of one. A single adult without children can now be covered, so if you were told years ago there was nothing for you, apply again.

Children and pregnant people reach much higher: up to $2,806 a month for a household of one, rising with family size. Parents and caretaker relatives, by contrast, have a very low limit of $407 a month for one, so the children are often the surest path in. The state advises those slightly over the limits to apply anyway.

The cost is low. There are no premiums for the expansion adult population, and non-pregnant adults may have copays capped at a 5 percent out-of-pocket limit unless exempt.

Most members get care through SoonerSelect, Oklahoma's managed care model launched in 2024, which delivers physical and behavioral health through contracted plans. You choose a plan with help from choice counseling.
