Unemployment Insurance (Indiana DWD / Uplink)

Last updated August 2026

If you lost your job through no fault of your own, file your Indiana unemployment claim online through Uplink Claimant Self Service, Uplink CSS. There is no separate phone-in claim line, so the online portal is the way in. Regular benefits last a maximum of about 26 weeks.

The weekly routine is where claims quietly die. You must file a voucher every week in Uplink to be paid, starting the week after your initial application. The claim week runs Sunday at midnight through Saturday at 8:59 p.m. Eastern, so file within that window.

You must also keep looking for work. Complete and keep a weekly written record of your work-search activity while you claim benefits, because the state can ask to see it.

Set expectations on the first steps. Within 10 business days you receive a Monetary Determination showing a possible weekly benefit amount and your maximum benefit. If there are no issues, eligibility is usually decided within 21 business days.

Help is available in several languages. The DWD Claimant Handbook explains eligibility and filing, and it is offered in English, Spanish, Burmese, Arabic, and Haitian Creole.

Unemployment helps but does not replace a paycheck, so stack support from week one. SNAP catches many households, the Healthy Indiana Plan keeps you insured, your township trustee can help with an emergency, and 2-1-1 knows which local funds bridge rent between jobs.
