Unemployment Insurance (Mississippi MDES)

If you lost your job through no fault of your own, file your Mississippi unemployment claim online through the ReEmployMS portal at mdes.ms.gov, open around the clock. For help, the MDES Contact Center is 601-493-9427. Be honest with yourself about the size: the maximum weekly benefit is $235, among the lowest in the nation, with a $30 minimum.

Your amount comes from your wages. The weekly benefit equals your highest-quarter earnings divided by 26, rounded down, within that $30 to $235 range. To qualify at all, your total base-period earnings must equal at least 40 times your weekly benefit amount.

Duration is up to 26 weeks, but capped by your wages. The maximum you can receive in a benefit year is the lesser of 26 times your weekly amount or one-third of your total base-period wages, so lower earners can run out sooner.

The weekly routine keeps benefits flowing. You must file weekly certifications, and missing one means no payment. You must also keep looking for work each week you claim.

One timing note: a claim is effective the Sunday of the week you file it, so filing sooner rather than later matters.
