Unemployment Insurance (Nevada DETR)

Nevada unemployment gives you weekly cash if you lost work through no fault of your own. It comes from the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, called DETR. The fastest way to file is online at ui.nv.gov, which is open around the clock. You file a first claim, then a claim for each week to keep payments coming.

Your weekly amount comes from your past pay. State law sets it at one twenty-fifth of your total wages in the highest-paid quarter of your base period. Your base period is a recent set of quarters of work. The law also sets a floor of $16 a week and a ceiling that is updated each year.

There is a limit on how many weeks you can draw. The most you can collect in a benefit year is whichever is less: 26 times your weekly amount, or one-third of your total base-period wages. In plain terms, a full claim lasts up to 26 weeks.

The law is built to help rather than deny for a near miss. If you fall just short of the high-quarter threshold, the state does not deny you. Instead your weekly amount is set at $1 less than one twenty-fifth of your high-quarter wages.

You must keep up your side each week. You must stay able to work, available to work, and looking for work while you claim. You must report any work and earnings for the week you did the work. File your weekly claim through the online system at ui.nv.gov, or by phone through a DETR call center.
