Unemployment Insurance (Oregon)

If you lost your job through no fault of your own, file your Oregon unemployment claim at Frances Online, frances.oregon.gov, which is open around the clock, or by phone or paper form. Your weekly benefit is 1.25 percent of your total base-period wages, and Oregon law sets the minimum and maximum. The online benefit estimator gives you a figure before you file.

Your claim runs on a 52-week benefit year that starts the first week you file, and you can receive up to 26 times your weekly amount during it. To qualify, you generally need at least 500 hours of work or at least $1,000 in wages in your base year, work in Oregon in the past 18 months, and be able and available for work.

One rule quietly delays that first check: the first eligible week is an unpaid waiting week. You are not paid for it, but you must still file a weekly claim to get credit. Plan for a gap at the start.

The weekly routine is demanding here. Each week you want benefits, you must file a weekly claim and complete at least five work-search activities, making direct contact with employers for at least two of them. Miss the requirements and the week does not pay.

Most people also must register for employment services after the initial claim, including registering in iMatchSkills and meeting with WorkSource Oregon staff for a reemployment orientation. Build that into your first week.

After a complete application, the department mails a Wage and Potential Benefit Report showing your base-year wages and weekly amount; review it and report anything missing. Payment comes by direct deposit or a prepaid ReliaCard. And stack support while you look: SNAP, OHP, and 2-1-1 all help between jobs.
