Utah HEAT (Home Energy Assistance)

HEAT is Utah's home energy assistance program, the state's version of LIHEAP. It helps low-income households with heating and other home energy costs. You can apply online through the HEAT application in myCase, or contact your local HEAT office.
The main test is income. HEAT serves households with total income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level. The exact dollar limit depends on your household size, so ask your local office for the current figure for your family.
Timing matters, because funds are limited. Priority households can apply starting October 1. That means households with a person who has a disability, someone age 60 or older, or a child under age 6. These applications run October 1 through September 30.
The general public applies later. General applications are processed November 1 through September 30. Either way, applications are accepted only until the federal LIHEAP funds for the year run out, so apply early in the season.

Pair HEAT with weatherization to lower future bills, and ask for a weatherization referral when you apply. Dial 2-1-1 for other local utility funds if a shut-off is looming. You may qualify, but the program decides after it reviews your case.
