Utah SNAP is food money loaded onto an EBT card each month. You use the card like a debit card at most grocery stores. The fastest way to apply is online through myCase at jobs.utah.gov/mycase, the state's one application for food, medical, financial, and child care help.
You do not need every document in hand to start. An application only needs your name, address, and your signature to be filed. Turning it in starts the clock, and you can bring the rest of the proof later. You can also call the Department of Workforce Services at 801-526-0950 or toll-free at 1-866-435-7414.
The main test is income. Your gross monthly income usually must be at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty level for your household size. Your local Department of Workforce Services office runs the exact numbers for your family, so apply and let them check.
There is a small asset test too. Most households can have up to $3,000 in countable resources, like money in the bank, and still qualify. Households with at least one person age 60 or older, or a person with a disability, can have up to $4,500. So some savings will not shut you out.
If food is short right now, ask about expedited service. Households in urgent need may get SNAP within seven days when they qualify. How much you receive each month depends on your household size and how much money the household earns.
