Weatherization Assistance Program (Colorado)

Colorado's Weatherization Assistance Program provides no-cost weatherization services to income-qualified residents, to lower energy bills, increase comfort, and improve safety. Services can include installing insulation and sealing air leaks, and air-source heat pumps are offered on a limited basis to qualifying homes. Because the work stays with the home, the savings repeat for years.

Eligibility is set by county, household size, and income. The program's income chart uses the highest of area median income, state median income, or the federal poverty line for each county, so the exact line depends on where you live. Ask your local provider, or check the chart, before deciding you earn too much.

Some households skip the income math. You may automatically qualify if you receive Aid to the Needy Disabled, Colorado Works, SSI, SNAP, or LEAP energy assistance. If you are already in one of those, say so when you apply.

Renters are welcome. Both homeowners and renters can apply, and qualified renters may receive services with the property owner's permission. The program serves manufactured and mobile homes, though RVs are not eligible, and a home weatherized within the previous 15 years cannot be done again yet.

Applying is straightforward, but service is not guaranteed. Apply online or contact your local weatherization service provider, found through the state energy office provider map, to request a mailed paper application. Meeting the income limits does not guarantee service; households may be waitlisted depending on funding, demand, and utility provider.

After you apply, a qualified crew schedules and makes the improvements. Larger buildings have their own door: multifamily buildings of five or more units can apply through Energy Outreach Colorado at 303-825-8750.
