Weatherization Assistance Program (Kansas)

The Kansas Weatherization Assistance Program makes free energy fixes to your home. The work lowers your future bills. Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, called KHRC, runs it through local agencies across the state. KHRC does not do the work itself. To start, contact KHRC at 785-217-2001, and it connects you to the provider for your county.
The income line is 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Households at or below that line can qualify. Both homeowners and renters can apply, so you do not need to own your home.
Some households move up the list. Priority generally goes to older adults, people with disabilities, and families with children. Any income eligible household may still apply. Say if any of these describe your home.
The fixes are real work on the house. The program seals drafts and air leaks, caulks doors and windows, and adds weather stripping and insulation. It also tests and repairs heating and cooling systems and water heaters. It can upgrade some appliances and lighting.
Here is one local note. After a provider change in eight counties, people in those areas should contact KHRC directly. Their applications are held until a new provider is assigned. If you are unsure who serves your county, KHRC can tell you.
This is a long term fix, not a quick one. An assessment usually comes first, and there can be a wait. So apply before an emergency, not during one. You may qualify, but the program decides.
