Weatherization Assistance Program (Michigan)

This program makes free energy repairs that MDHHS says cut heating costs 20 to 25 percent, about $450 a year. A whole-home audit with a blower-door test decides the work. Air sealing. Insulation, attic to sill box. Thermostat upgrades. Furnace or water heater tune-up or replacement. Fridge and lighting swaps.
The income line is 200 percent of poverty, and anyone on MDHHS cash assistance or SSI qualifies automatically.
Renters count, with landlord permission. So do homeowners. The home just cannot be for sale, in foreclosure, or mid-remodel at inspection. One limit: homes weatherized in the last 15 years must wait their turn again.
There is no state portal; local Community Action Agencies run it in every county. Find yours on the state locator map and ask for a weatherization application.
One honest boundary: this is an energy program, not home repair. Houses needing structural work first get deferred. Michigan's answer for that is SER home repairs. Fix the roof through SER, then weatherize.
