North Dakota's Weatherization Assistance Program makes free energy-efficiency improvements to your home. The work lowers your future bills and makes the home safer. It is run by North Dakota's Community Action Agencies, which have weatherized homes since 1976. There is no fee for applicants.
The income rule uses the poverty level. The income of all household members cannot be more than 200 percent of the poverty level. Under the posted income table, the yearly limit is $30,120 for one person, $40,880 for two, $51,640 for three, and $62,400 for a family of four. The local Community Action Agency confirms the current limits.
There is a fast track. If you already get LIHEAP, you are automatically eligible for weatherization. So it makes sense to apply for both.
Do not believe the myth that renters cannot get help. Both renters and owners can qualify, whether they live in a manufactured home, a wood-framed home, or an apartment. Renters must meet the income guidelines, and their landlord must follow the program rules.
Know the one-time rule. A household can get weatherization services only one time, unless the home was weatherized more than fifteen years ago. Priority goes to older adults, people with disabilities, and families with children, so say if any of those describe your home.
