Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) — Stokes County DSS

LIEAP is the once-a-year heating payment. Apply through Stokes County DSS, and if you qualify, the money goes straight to your heating company and shows up as a credit on your account. You never touch the cash, and there is nothing to repay. Call (336) 593-2861 or visit 1010 Main Street in Danbury.
The calendar is the whole game with this program. December is reserved: only households with someone age 60 or older, or a disabled person receiving DAAS services, can apply then. Everyone else applies starting in January, and the window stays open until March 31 or until the money runs out, whichever comes first. Funds do run out, so January beats February.
One more thing the county says plainly: there are no automatic approvals. Even if you got LIEAP last year, you apply again this year. Income limits apply, your household must be responsible for its heating bill, and the DSS worker confirms the rest when you apply.
