Wyoming Medicaid

Wyoming Medicaid is free or low-cost health coverage for people in certain groups: children, pregnant women, parents and caretaker relatives with a child in the home, and people who are aged, blind, or disabled. Each group has its own income rules. You apply online through the WES portal at wesystem.wyo.gov, or by phone at 1-855-294-2127. One application checks you for the coverage you may qualify for.
There is one fact that surprises many people, so it helps to know it early. Wyoming did not expand Medicaid, which means there is no coverage category for adults ages 19 to 64 who do not have children and do not have a disability. Those adults generally do not qualify no matter how little they earn. If that is you, dial 2-1-1 to find community health centers and other low-cost care.
Children have the most room to qualify. Children ages 0 to 5 can be covered with family income at or below 154 percent of the poverty level. Children ages 6 to 18 can be covered at or below 133 percent. If your children earn just over the Medicaid line, the same application checks them for Kid Care CHIP, so few children in low- and middle-income families are left out.
Pregnant women also have wider coverage. A pregnant woman can qualify with income at or below 154 percent of poverty, and that coverage now lasts up to 12 months after the baby is born. That postpartum year gives new mothers time to recover and get care without a sudden gap in coverage.
To qualify, you must be a Wyoming resident and a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident, generally for five years or more. People who are aged, blind, or disabled have their own paths, such as Medicare Savings Programs and coverage for nursing home care, each with its own income rule that the office can explain.
