Assistance Programs in Wyoming

Wyoming's Weatherization Assistance Program makes free energy-efficiency improvements that lower future heating bills: insulation, air sealing, and heating-system repairs. It shares one application with LIEAP, and the Utility Assistance portal takes weatherization applications year-round. Call 1-800-246-4221 for help. Homeowners and renters both qualify, including people in mobile homes.

LIEAP helps low-income Wyoming households pay winter heating bills. Wyoming takes applications online only, through the Utility Assistance portal, generally from October 1 through April 30 each heating season. For the current window and help applying, call 1-800-246-4221 or email lieapinfo@wyo.gov. Approved LIEAP applicants are automatically considered for free weatherization work.

SNAP loads monthly food money onto an EBT card you use like a debit card at most Wyoming grocery stores. Wyoming still uses a paper application: download it, then submit it to your local Department of Family Services office in person, by mail, by fax, or by email to snappowerservice@wyo.gov. WIC gives healthy food, breastfeeding support, nutrition education, and health referrals to pregnant and postpartum people, infants, and children under age 5. Wyoming WIC runs through local clinics of the Wyoming Department of Health. Kid Care CHIP is low-cost health coverage for children of working parents who earn too much for Medicaid. It covers check-ups, immunizations, prescriptions, dental, vision, and mental health care, with preventive and dental care free and other services at a small co-pay. Apply through the same WES portal at wesystem.wyo.gov, or call 1-855-294-2127. One application checks a child for both Medicaid and CHIP.

Wyoming Medicaid is free or low-cost health coverage for children, pregnant people, parents and caretaker relatives, and people who are aged, blind, or disabled. Wyoming did not expand Medicaid, so low-income adults without children generally do not qualify no matter how little they earn. Apply online through the WES portal at wesystem.wyo.gov, or call 1-855-294-2127. If you are a child or a working parent over the limit, ask about Kid Care CHIP.

Temporary weekly payments if you lost work through no fault of your own, run by the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. File online through the WYUI portal at wyui.wyo.gov, which is the fastest way, or reach the Claims Center at 307-473-3789, open 8am to 4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 8am to noon Wednesday.

Child Care Assistance helps low-income Wyoming parents pay for child care while they work or attend an employment-related education program. As of August 2025 you apply through ECARES, the state's child care eligibility system. Contact your local Department of Family Services office or call 1-800-457-3659 to get started. If two parents are in the home, both must be in an approved activity during the same hours.

POWER, Personal Opportunities With Employment Responsibilities, is Wyoming's version of TANF: monthly cash assistance for low-income families with children, paired with a work program. There is also a Caretaker Relative track for relatives raising a child whose parents are absent. Legal Aid of Wyoming provides free civil legal help to low-income residents on noncriminal matters like eviction and housing, family law, public benefits, and consumer problems.
